Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

The Surfscan group includes a team of engineers, technology development, apps engineers and product marketing focused on technology that enables wafer, IC and equipment manufacturers to develop, qualify and monitor their process tools. Defects and process non-uniformities detected on Surfscan equipment allow for early identification of yield excursions.


The flagship Surfscan products include the SPx platforms for wafer surface quality and wafer defect inspection tools and systems for inspection of polished wafers, epi wafers and engineered substrates during the wafer fabrication process.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design opto-mechanical and mechanical parts, modules and subsystems to support the design of the next generation wafer inspection tools. 
  • Responsible for the complete design process, including requirements specification, feasibility studies, cost and scheduling, conducting various analysis, such as stress, thermal, fluid and vibration modeling, conceptual and detailed design, detailed drawings, design review presentations, procurement of prototype parts, system integration, prototype testing and handoff to manufacturing. 
  • Work with other engineering groups such as Optics engineers, Systems engineers and Manufacturing/ Serving engineers to ensure flawless integration and test at the subsystem and system level. 
  • Develops the required supporting documentation, such as assembly and test procedures.
  • Works closely with and manages suppliers to ensure all design requirements are specified and met.
  • Addresses and resolves product issues thru the product phases.

 

Qualifications

  • Understand fundamentals of mechanical engineering, including design principles, tolerance, error budget, materials and machining process.
  • Proficient with CAD software. SolidWorks skill is preferred.
  • Have experience in two or more types of FEA analysis: stress, thermal, vibration and flow analysis. 
  • Desirable to have experience in one or more of these arease: optics, optical mounting and alignment, precision mechanical design, instrumentation, metrology, flexure, semiconductor equipment, motion controls, electronics and lasers.
  • Willing to learn to new technologies.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) with at least five years of experience. OR Master's Level Degree with at least seven years of experience. OR Bachelor's Level Degree with at least ten years of experience.
