Group/Division

SPTS wafer processing solutions include market-leading silicon etch, dielectric etch, dry-release etch, PVD, PECVD and molecular vapor deposition (MVD®), available with a range of wafer-handling options applicable to R&D, pilot production, or volume production environments. SPTS is headquartered and has its main manufacturing facility in Newport, UK, with additional manufacturing in Allentown, Pennsylvania. SPTS operates across 19 countries in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, and offers comprehensive service and spare parts support through a worldwide network of service centers and qualified local agents.

Responsibilities

   

This is a 3-year Apprenticeship covering all aspects of working on the build and test of the semiconductor capital equipment produced by SPTS. 

As an Engineering Apprentice, you will working within the Manufacturing team and throughout the apprenticeship on the job training and role responsibilities will include the following:

  • Mechanical assembly of semiconductor equipment
  • Electrical assembly and wiring of semiconductor equipment
  • Fault finding of semiconductor equipment
  • Operation and process engineering of semiconductor equipment
  • Leading and assisting with continuous improvement projects
  • Timely completion of NVQ log book entries
  • Successful completion of a BTEC and HNC in Electronics
 

Qualifications

 

  • Five GCSE’s including Maths, English, & Science at grade C or above
  • First year of BTEC or equivalent course in electronics/electrical that allows entry to BTEC year 2 on day release. 
 We are looking for ambitious individuals who are enthusiastic about learning and developing a successful career within SPTS.  Our apprentices work early shift (6am-2pm) and late shift (2pm-10pm) on alternative weeks whilst also attending college one day per week.  Applicants will therefore need to be able to plan their time well to accommodate both work and study commitments.  Candidates must also be confident, flexible, self-motivated and must be a keen team-player and enjoy a challenge!

Day release each week to attend college to complete academic studies up to HNC level as well as on the job training and NVQ qualifications. 

Apprentices will need to allocate several hours per week of their own time to ensure college assignments are completed in a timely manner.
