With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and efficiently. Enabling the movement towards sophisticated chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG) is responsible for creating KLA’s metrology and inspection products. We are looking for the best and the brightest research scientists, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

KLA is ramping its fastest-growing new research & development center in Ann Arbor, MI, and we're hiring the best talent! The Ann Arbor team is developing product equipment, test centers, and the software and AI algorithms that power the cutting-edge capabilities that KLA is recognized for.

Central Engineering is KLA's largest engineering organization comprised of 9 Centers-of-Excellence (CoE) in various fields applied across all product groups in the company. The Centers-of-Excellence includes Handling & Automation, Precision Motion Control, Sensors & Image Acquisition, Platform Design, and Packaging Engineering, among others. Talent includes over 500 engineers across global centers in Israel, China, India, and the US. Each CoE contributes not just talent and results toward product programs, but also domain expertise, roadmaps, niche facilities, apparatus, models, and analytics. These differentiate KLA not only in WHAT we do, but HOW we do it.



In this role successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Develop requirement specifications from performance requirements using systems engineering methodology.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to develop and implement components and sub-modules for vacuum systems for next-generation products.
  • Apply systems engineering principles to optimize system-level instrument performance.
  •  Lead the development and testing of systems design, prototype acceptance, and spec validation.
  • Setup and qualify prototype high-vacuum systems.
  • Qualify contamination level of subsystems.
  • Write technical reports to communicate issues, analysis, technical assessments, system status, best-known-methods, and engineering recommendations.
  •  Ability to quickly get up to speed to design and execute multi-disciplinary experiments, write and peer review detailed test plans and summary reports for system testing.
  • Coordinate and perform root cause analysis to solve problems.
  • Interface closely with service, manufacturing, engineering, and marketing team to define and optimize system performance.
  •  Coordinate with outside vendors to perform and deliver sub-system products.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance of engineering prototype systems.



  • Degree in Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or related fields.
  • Experience with high vacuum systems, contamination control, and material selection for high vacuum systems.
  • Possess a working knowledge of precision instruments, vacuum systems, and control systems.
  • Proficient with data analysis tools such as JMP, Matlab, Microsoft Excel.

Desirable skills:

  •  Programming skills in Matlab and scripting languages, such as Python desired.
  • Previous experience with instruments in the semiconductor industry is desired.

Must have the flexibility to travel outside of Michigan based on business needs.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate (Academic) or
  • Master's Level Degree with at least 3 years of experience or
  • Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 4 years of experience

Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or related fields.
