The Global Service Support Organization (GSS) team headquartered in Milpitas, CA is our service organization that consists of Service Sales and Marketing, Spares Supply Chain management, Field Operations, Engineering, Product Training, and Technical Support.  The GSS organization partners with our field teams and customers in all business sectors to maintain the high performance and productivity of our products through a flexible portfolio of services. Our comprehensive services include: proactive management of tools to identify and improve performance; expertise in optics, image processing and motion control with worldwide service engineers, 24/7 technical support teams and knowledge management systems; and an extensive parts network to ensure worldwide availability of parts.


Applications Engineers (AEs) work with customers to help them ascertain which optical metrology tool suits their application. They communicate with the customer directly; analyze samples using Filmetrics tools and specify the appropriate system(s). AEs further provide technical assistance and support for customers’ systems in the field. The position is a mixture of traditional application, sales, and support engineers’ duties. Beta testing of new products and new software versions is also a common activity.  Occasional travel will be required.

Typical Duties:

  • Conduct product and technical demonstrations
  • Qualify sales leads
  • Define, prepare and present quotes to customers
  • Close sales opportunities successfully
  • Provide training and technical support of installed systems
  • Participate in industry tradeshows
  • Provide technical feedback on product specifications and features to Marketing and R&D  


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Physical Sciences or Engineering field is required
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Highly self-motivated and able to take initiatives
  • Attention to detail
  • Accomplished computer skills, must learn to use customer relationship management software (CRM) and adhere to the established protocols
