KLA Careers

Applications Development Engineer

Company Overview

Calling the adventurers ready to join a company that's pushing the limits of nanotechnology to keep the digital revolution rolling. At KLA, we're making technology advancements that are bigger—and tinier—than the world has ever seen.

Who are we?  We research, develop, and manufacture the world's most advanced inspection and measurement equipment for the semiconductor and nanoelectronics industries. We enable the digital age by pushing the boundaries of technology, creating tools capable of finding defects smaller than a wavelength of visible light. We create smarter processes so that technology leaders can manufacture high-performance chips—the kind in that phone in your pocket, the tablet on your desk and nearly every electronic device you own—faster and better. We're passionate about creating solutions that drive progress and help people do what wouldn't be possible without us.  The future is calling. Will you answer?

The candidate will work in the GSS division in the KLA Instruments Group. This group is focused on markets outside of semiconductor that can utilize KLA’s inspection and metrology expertise. The KLA Instruments group manufactures Candela inspection systems that primarily serve data storage, compound semiconductor, LED and power device marketing as well as optical profilers, stylus profilers, nanoindenters, and benchtop thin film reflectometers that serve a wide range of markets: semiconductor, compound semiconductor, LED, power device, data storage, solar cells, medical devices, R&D, and laboratories, to name a few.  The profilers are metrology systems that are used to measure the topography of surfaces, such as the amount of a material deposited or removed, surface texture, form, and stress.

The applications development engineer will be a key growth enabler for our optical and stylus profiler product lines.  The new hire will support development of new products, sustaining support for existing products, pre/post sale support, and product promotion. The applications engineer will interface with all aspects of the organization, including engineering, operations, marketing, sales, and service. The engineer will be based at KLA’s headquarters in Milpitas, California, supporting customers around the world, as well as our engineering and operations teams in China.

The position requires the following responsibilities:

  5. Support for internal customers such as service, engineering, and operations.

Early career hire with 1 or more years’ experience in the semiconductor or a related field.  It is desired to have a background in scanning probe microscopy, interferometry, confocal, general microscopy, and/or related optical profiling techniques.

Excellent technical written and oral communication skills are required.  The candidate must be willing and able to travel within the US and internationally, with the expectation of travel between 25 to 50%.  The candidate must be authorized to work in the US.
