With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

The Surfscan group includes a team of engineers, technology development, apps engineers and product marketing focused on technology that enables wafer, IC and equipment manufacturers to develop, qualify and monitor their process tools. Defects and process non-uniformities detected on Surfscan equipment allow for early identification of yield excursions.

The flagship Surfscan products include the SPx platforms for wafer surface quality and wafer defect inspection tools and systems for inspection of polished wafers, epi wafers and engineered substrates during the wafer fabrication process.


The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-driven individual who has strong fundamental motion control knowledge and motion control algorithm development and tuning experience for servo control systems.

He/She will have C++ programming skill, troubleshooting and debugging skills to work on machine control software on wafer inspection systems, interacting with multidisciplinary engineering teams including software, mechanical, optical teams to troubleshoot system problems.



  • PhD EE/ME or MS EE/MSME with 3+ years  of experience on control engineering.
  • Must have Control algorithm development and control system design experience.
  • Must have strong fundamental analytical skills in motion control engineering with a proven track record of applying those skills to electromechanics subsystem development, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Have strong knowledge of C++ programming skill and troubleshooting, debugging skills to work on machine control software.
  • Familiar or mastering and hands on experience with at least one Servo Control/motor Driver Product and programing of it.
  • Understanding of Motors DC, AC, Brushless motor, stepper motor, Amplifiers, PWM, Linear, 3 phases are a plus.
  • Understanding mechanical interface like linear bearing, Leadscrew, gear, Coupling  and other back end mechanisms are a strong plus.
  • Be able to interact with multidisciplinary engineering teams including software, mechanical, optical teams to conduct system tests and troubleshoot system problems.
  • The ability to multi-task and sense of ownership to drive work done.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and a good team player

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate (Academic) OR Master's Level Degree with 3+ years of experience on  control engineering.
  • Experience with servo control algorithms development, simulations, and servo control software development.
  • Experience in one or more of the following programming languages: Java, C++, C#, Python, Matlab
