With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

The Surfscan group includes a team of engineers, technology development, apps engineers and product marketing focused on technology that enables wafer, IC and equipment manufacturers to develop, qualify and monitor their process tools. Defects and process non-uniformities detected on Surfscan equipment allow for early identification of yield excursions.

The flagship Surfscan products include the SPx platforms for wafer surface quality and wafer defect inspection tools and systems for inspection of polished wafers, epi wafers and engineered substrates during the wafer fabrication process.



Primary Responsibilities

TSEs respond to complex issues where first-line product support has been unable to isolate or fix problems in malfunctioning equipment. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results. Provides Plan of Action (POAs) or if the depth of technical understanding requires, consults with other engineering teams, host meetings of multiple teams to discuss the technical issues in details and determine the best course of action. Must be able to clearly document troubleshooting processes and technical findings in order to provide service and postmortem reports.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Reporting design, reliability and maintenance problems to the appropriate engineering team
  • Documenting and providing feedback to Service Organization Sustaining Engineering on Continuous Improvement Project (CIP) opportunities
  • Preparing service and postmortem reports
  • Assist in customer installation, and upgrade of equipment
  • Training of KLA and non KLA personnel
  • Develop and document new troubleshooting procedures and Best Known Methods (BKMs)
  • Develop written procedures, standards, training material and other technical documentation
  • Technical Support representative for new product development
  • Backfill or over support of Field Service Engineers
  • Lead or participate in other small projects



Masters with 2-4 years, or Bachelors with 3-5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in engineering applications.

Experience in project management, conflict interest management, leading/driving multi-disciplined teams to resolve complex issues

Proven ability of quickly diagnosing problems through analysis of inspection reports, system log files, system parametric diagnostic data and other test results, and provide solutions

Able to travel 25-60%

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Level Degree with at least 2 years of experience OR Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 3 years of experience.
