Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

The Broadband Plasma Division (BBP) provides market-leading patterned wafer optical inspection systems for leading-edge IC manufacturing. Logic, foundry, and memory customers depend on BBP products to detect yield-critical defects for process debug and excursion monitoring at advanced process nodes.    

BBP flagship products include the 29xx and 39xx series which leverage Broadband Plasma technology to capture a wide range of defects with ultimate sensitivity at the optical inspection speeds needed for inline defect monitoring.

 

Responsibilities

 

This Algorithm Engineer position belongs to tsmc home team, part of HQ engineering organization for Broad-band Plasma wafer inspection in the Global Product Group (GPG) of KLA Corporation. The charter of the engineering organization is to develop and provide inline monitoring solutions to the semiconductor fabrication industry for detecting and understanding yield limiting defects that impact their cutting-edge devices. TSMC home team will focus on solving/addressing tsmc specific challenges. This position offers a unique opportunity to those who are seeking technical challenges in the following domains: advanced microscopy technology; broadband DUV optical system characterization; high speed high precision motion control; high speed high precision autofocus system; high power broadband DUV light source; light/material interaction; image processing and machine learning algorithms.

Job responsibilities of this position include:

  1. Provide algorithm technical support for escalations in various of product life cycle phases onsite.

  2. Interacting with TSMC business unit, GSS (Global Service Support) and customers to address issues and investigate solutions.

  3. Analyzing the signal and noise characteristics of current and emerging IC yield limiting defects, formulating algorithmic solutions, and validating them via simulation and prototyping.

  4. Investigating feasibility of advance algorithm for next generation product through collaboration with technology and system architect group.

  5. Provide prototype algorithm solution for special customer engagement project at customer site.

  6. Working with product system engineering team to define the algorithm performance specification and use it to guide the algorithm design and implementation.

  7. Act as the algorithm representative during system level hardware/software integration, trouble shooting.

  8. Participate in software quality assurance activities required by the software development process.

  9. Occasional (<=10%) travel to HQ is required

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  1. Must have a strong background in engineering or the physical sciences and demonstrated analysis and problem-solving skills.
  2. Have a good understanding of Optical/Algorithms/Software systems and their interactions in the context of complex industrial equipment.
  3. Strong diagnostic and trouble shooting skills in subsystem level including optics, opto-mechanics, motion control systems and algorithm.
  4. Experience in developing a subsystem in one or more of the above areas are highly desirable.
  5. Capability of perform scientific and algorithmic analysis with script language such as Matlab/Python is a must.
  6. Prototyping skill with C/C++ is a plus.
  7. Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes and image analysis is desirable.
  8. Should have the ability to influence functional groups to drive system level decisions.
  9. Agility and ability to thrive on a fast-paced program and respond quickly to customer escalations.
  10. Ability to define objectives clearly, create and track schedules effectively, and drive the team to a solution.
  11. Must be an effective communicator able to share technical information with functional groups and provide executive level reports to management and customers.
  12. Experience to lead small cross functional teams.
  13. PhD or MS with 3+ years of experience in applied optics, electrical engineering, physics, computer sciences, physics and mathematics or related disciplines is desired.
