Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

The Film and Scatterometry Technology (FaST) Division provides industry leading metrology solutions for worldwide semiconductor IC manufacturers.  The FaST Division portfolio of metrology products includes hardware and software solutions for optical film thickness, optical critical dimension (CD), composition, and resistivity measurement systems.  These products are essential for the IC manufacturers as they provide critical metrology capabilities for the development and implementation of their advanced IC processes.  The FaST division is committed to support our customers to achieve performance entitlement of our solution and we effectively partner with our customers from their early research and development phase to the high volume in-line manufacturing implementation specific for their process needs.  The division consists of a global team located in US, Israel, China, and India.

 

Business Unit 

The MicroSense business is the world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced magnetic metrology systems for inline monitoring of process defects in advanced semiconductor and data storage (hard disk drive) factories. Key technologies include Magneto-Optic-Kerr-Effect (MOKE) and Vibrating Sample Magnetometers (VSM’s).

 

 

Responsibilities

 

Our Applications Development Engineer position is based just outside the Boston area, in Lowell, MA.  The selected candidate will join a ~50-person fully cross-functional team working in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment. The candidate will report to the Director of Magnetic Metrology.  There are two primary areas of focus in this role, however as you grow and develop, other opportunities will emerge.

  • Customer Sales & Applications Support: Will help drive product penetration/adoption and process optimization at customer facilities.  This includes: investigating customer technical needs/problems and providing solutions, understanding competitive situations, demonstrating product value, reporting technology development and new applications’ methods and documenting use cases. Will work with KLA account teams, Rep’s, and Distributors in supporting pre-sale activities including product presentations, demonstrations, collateral, answering technical questions, providing quotations, helping with sales and product bundling proposals, managing product sales forecasting, tracking daily customer closure tasks and driving associated activities to closure. Conduct complex tool demonstrations in front of customers to showcase tool performance and develop use cases to help drive tool sales. Includes post-sale activities, including assisting with, tracking open issues, and completing final acceptance signoff in the field, training customers and other apps engineers. Attend customer Technical Review Meetings (TRM’s) as required.
  • Product Development: Working closely with Ph.D. Scientists and other engineers, characterization and testing of new systems, features and options.  This includes designing and conducting experiments, collecting data, publishing results and recommendations in the form of applications notes, best known methods or characterization studies. Formalizing and presenting Product Roadmaps.

 

Qualifications

 

  • We are looking for a high energy, self-driven, highly organized, and motivated engineer who is interested in working in High Tech.  The semiconductor space is a fast-paced environment that gives applications engineers a lot of autonomy to work and drive projects on their own. Ideal candidates appreciate the opportunity to have high levels of accountability, working well with limited supervision and thrive in a work environment where they can drive projects on their own.
  • Background in magnetics or magnetic metrology a real plus, but not required.
  • Candidates must have a desire to travel up to 30% on short notice and enjoy working in other cultures. 
  • Teamwork is critical so having a good balance between technical skills and people skills is a must. 
  • Excellent English verbal, written, and presentation skills are required.  
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to consistently meet short lead-time commitments and milestones.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Technical Bachelor's Level Degree, Master’s Degree a plus.
