Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

The RAPID division is the world leading provider of reticle inspection solutions for the semiconductor industry. The company provides inspection solutions to both the mask shops and the semiconductor fabs to ensure that lithography yields are consistently high thus enabling cost-effective manufacturing.

Responsibilities

KLA is looking for an Optical Engineering (OE) Manager in our RAPID Engineering Group.  The optics manager will lead a group of optics design professionals responsible for proposing, detailing, and testing new optical designs and technologies for the next generation photomask inspection systems.  This roll often receives assignments in the form of high level business and product objectives. The manager should lead the team to map these objectives into optical subsystem requirements and create a detailed development plan under budget and schedule constraints. It is also the OE manager’s responsibility to closely track the execution of the development plan and take necessary actions when actual progress deviates from the plan.

This person will set a vision, own or actively participate in all critical optical system design reviews, interface with other groups (systems, ME, EE, and others) and will coach his/her group members in their professional growth. He/ she will provide leadership by investigating different design options and finding the best option by evaluating tolerances, light budgets, costs, schedule, and other trade-offs.

 

As the leader of our RAPID Optical Design Engineering team and lead optical domain expert, the OE manager is responsible for,

  • Owns the optical architecture and design of all optical based products within the RAPID division.
  • Investigating different design concepts and finding the best option by evaluating tolerances, light budgets, costs, schedule, and other trade-offs.
  • Developing and updating the optics roadmap based on market trend and emerging technologies.
  • Building and maintain a world class optical engineering team through mentoring, cross training and recruiting. Experiences in developing teams by coaching and cross-training.
  • Experiences in collaborating with strategic vendors to bring design into production
  • Tracking the execution of the development plan and taking necessary actions when actual progress deviates from the plan.
  • Setting a vision, owning or actively participating in all critical optical system design reviews, interface with other groups (systems, ME, EE, and others)
  • 4+ years experiences in leading optical engineering team and leading by example with technical excellency, engineering rigor and timely delivery.
  • Expert knowledge and successful track record in leading the development of highly complex and high precision optical systems from design, tolerancing, alignment & metrology, as well as manufacturability.
  • Ability to manage priorities, schedules, development cost and to develop and communicate vision and specific plans to implement that vision.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have experience in the following areas:

  • Proven track record of managing a high performance optical engineering design team
  • Solid project and vender management experience is a must.
  • Ability to manage priorities, schedules, and to develop and communicate vision and specific plan to implement that vision
  • Participated in several complete design cycles from initial concept through product release and sustaining.
  • Strong fundamental optical engineering skills
  • Expert knowledge in designing complex optical systems
  • Tolerance Analysis of Complex Optical Systems.
  • Lens Design
  • Optical metrology
  • Optical alignment
  • Specification of precision opto-mechanical assemblies
  • Design for manufacturing
  • Proficiency in CodeV or Zemax
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following area;

  • EUV or UV system/lens design
  • Design of optical inspection equipment
  • IP development
  • Understanding of semiconductor industry specifics, preferably by having prior experience with optical tools (metrology, inspection, scanners)
  • Being a technical expert in at least one relevant optics area (ellipsometry, reflectometry, UV imaging systems, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) with at least 5 years of experience. OR Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 12 years of experience. OR Master's Level Degree with at least 8 years of experience.
