With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

KLA is ramping its fastest-growing new research & development center in Ann Arbor, MI, and we're hiring the best talent for it.  In Ann Arbor we're developing product equipment, test centers, and the software and AI algorithms that power the cutting-edge capabilities KLA is recognized for. 

Central Engineering is KLA's largest engineering organization comprised of 9 Centers-of-Excellence (CoE) in various disciplines applied across all product groups in the company. These CoE include Handling & Automation, Precision Motion Control, Sensors & Image Acquisition, Platform Design, and Packaging Engineering, among others. Talent includes over 500 engineers across global centers in Israel, China, India, and the US. Each CoE contributes not just talent and deliverables per discipline toward product programs, but also subject matter expertise, best practices, roadmaps, specialized facilities, apparatus, models, and analytics. These differentiate KLA not only in WHAT we do, but also in HOW we do it.


  • Serve as the lead electrical engineer and guide and lead less experienced electrical design engineers throughout product design cycle
  • Understand and drive system, subsystem and interface requirements
  • Perform feasibility studies and proof of concepts Translate product level requirements into circuit board designs
  • Conduct analysis, such as circuit, timing, thermal/cooling, AC/DC power design, electrical loads and FPGA modeling, conceptual and detailed design using design tools (i.e. OrCAD, PSpice, Xilinx/Altera FPGA /EPLD development systems, etc...)
  • Provide detailed drawings, design review presentations, procurement of prototype parts, system integration, prototype testing, and handoff to manufacturing
  • Development, test and integration of complex electrical components and subsystems (including PCBs, cables, system interconnect)
  • Create and provide BOMs to purchasing
  • Lead the subsystem integration process collaborating with the Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Optical Engineering teams
  • Interact with manufacturing and service teams to support product transition into manufacturing
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure all design requirements are specified and achieved
  • Address and resolve product issues through the product lifecycle phases
  • Write technical documentation that meets the defined quality standards for manufacturing and service as required



  • Ideal candidate will have 5+ years of industry experience designing high-voltage, low-noise, mixed signal PCBs used in high-end precision equipment
  • Strongly prefer experience serving as technical lead on electrical design to a small group of electrical engineers or someone with the ability to lead other electrical engineers
  • AC/DC power distribution design
  • Controls knowledge (control circuit design including motion controls, thermal modeling/ controls, PID)
  • PLC programming (e.g. Siemens, Allen Bradley)
  • FPGA modeling
  • Software applications and programming, such as MATLAB, Python, C/C++, LabView
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards
  • Be able to work in a multi-discipline and multi-culture global organization
  • Be flexible and adaptive to adjust project focus based on changes of business priority dynamics
  • Ability to lead a small design team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be self-driven and a strong team player

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate (Academic) or
  • Master's Level Degree with at least 2 years of experience or 
  • Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 3 years of experience
