Group/Division

Filmetrics – a KLA company is the world sales and technology leader in tabletop thin-film metrology. We supply cutting-edge products to the semiconductor, biomedical, solar, and display industries, among many others. There's a good chance Filmetrics products were used in the production of your cell phone, tablet, or computer.

 

We've introduced a major new product that has a chance to disrupt the optical profiler market. Our product roadmap should allow us to exceed our already rapid growth rate, and to enable many more users to afford surface profilers. We need positive, motivated contributors who are excited to connect a wide range of customers to our measurement solutions, and to be a part of a dynamic, rapidly growing team.

 

Responsibilities

Applications Engineers (AEs) work with customers to help them ascertain which optical metrology tool suits their application. They communicate with the customer directly; analyze samples using Filmetrics tools and sell systems. AEs further provide technical assistance and support for systems in the field. The position is a mixture of traditional application, sales, and support engineers’ duties. Furthermore, additional responsibilities of a San Diego-based AE can include supporting the engineering team in new product development and testing. Furthermore, occasional software testing, parts inspections, standards certifications may be needed.

Typical Duties:

  • Conduct product and technical demonstrations
  • Define, prepare and present quotes to customers
  • Close sales opportunities successfully
  • Provide training and technical support of installed systems
  • Participate in industry tradeshows
  • Provide technical feedback on product specifications and features to Marketing and R&D

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Physical Sciences or Engineering field is required
  • An advanced degree in a technical field related to thin-film deposition, metrology, or surface characterization is beneficial
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Highly self-motivated and able to take initiatives
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to move about the facility to perform job duties effectively and in a timely manner
  • Accomplished computer skills, must learn to use customer relationship management software (CRM) and adhere to the established protocols
