Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

The LS-SWIFT Division of KLA’s Global Products Group provides patterned wafer inspection systems for high-volume semiconductor manufacturing.  Its mission is to deliver market-leading cost of ownership in defect detection for a broad range of applications in the production of semiconductors. Customers from the foundry, logic, memory, automotive, MEMS, advanced packaging and other markets rely upon high-sample wafer inspection information generated by LS-SWIFT products.

LS (Laser Scanning) systems enable cost-effective patterned wafer defect detection for the industry’s most sophisticated process technologies deployed in leading-edge foundry, logic, DRAM, and NAND fabs.  SWIFT (Simultaneous Wafer Inspection at Fast Throughput) systems deliver all-wafer-surface (frontside, backside, and edge) macro inspection that is critical for automotive IC, MEMS, and advanced packaging processes as well as foundry/logic and memory fabs.

LS-SWIFT operates from a global footprint that includes the US, Singapore, India and Germany, and serves a worldwide customer base across Asia, Europe and North America.

 

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a dynamic engineering team that is responsible for development of our next generation wafer inspection tool.  You must possess a strong sense of purpose and be driven to continually improve self, others, and processes. 

This position requires both a strong technical background and project management ability to enable development of complex products and solutions to schedule. Effective communication skills both oral and written are required for this job.  We are looking for candidates who have intellectual curiosity, a desire to grow and can demonstrate leadership within the team.

Additional details regarding key responsibilities:

  • Set and drive engineering development and test schedules to achieve project milestones for performance, feature content, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and servicability. Aim to maintain continuity but also have the flexibility to adapt the schedule to unforeseen changes and gaps.
  • Organize activities by reviewing & revising the schedule, dispositioning new work, establishing weekly priorities, and communicating changes through regular meetings.
  • Determine and assess the engineering technical risks. Establish mitigation plans to reduce and retire risks. Communicate when risk status changes or new risks manifest.
  • Systematic and creative problem solver who can coordinate troubleshooting activities with an interdisciplinary team. Help to create and communicate the plan, determine owners, prerequisites and deliverables, and track progress. Bring in help from other groups when necessary.
  • On a day-to-day basis have the ability to resolve apparent task conflict by making priority calls that are aligned with program objectives. Escalate when appropriate. Document technical decisions that may impact the product definition.
  • Maintain rigor by ensuring proper design of experiments, test plan and report documentation & review, formal problem solving, and execution of planned tasks.
  • Communicate engineering status and changes on a periodic basis to management in the form of weekly reports and live presentation.
  • As a development team core member, work to meet and demonstrate requirements for Product Life Cycle phase exits and present results at checkpoint meetings.
  • Be an agent of change – Semiconductor industry is a fast-paced industry with constant change and ever increasing speed of new product introductions. The successful candidate is expected to adopt and drive new ideas and new ways of doing things in a fast moving and highly competitive industry.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Optics, Physics or related field.
  • Experience in optoelectronics, sensor technology, microscopy, optics, or systems design.
  • Experience in driving projects that include system concept, integration, troubleshooting, testing, and risk management
  • Good track record of on-time completion of projects that meet stated requirements
  • Understanding of lithography and semiconductor manufacturing process
  • Grounding in practical statistical analysis of system performance and specifications
  • Programming experience, particularly in Python, MATLAB, JMP or LabView to collect and analyze image and system data

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD + 2 yrs. experience
  • Masters + 4 yrs. experience
  • Bachelors + 6 yrs. experience
