KLA Careers

Applications Development Engineer

Company Overview

Calling the adventurers ready to join a company that's pushing the limits of nanotechnology to keep the digital revolution rolling. At KLA, we're making technology advancements that are bigger—and tinier—than the world has ever seen.

Who are we?  We research, develop, and manufacture the world's most advanced inspection and measurement equipment for the semiconductor and nanoelectronics industries. We enable the digital age by pushing the boundaries of technology, creating tools capable of finding defects smaller than a wavelength of visible light. We create smarter processes so that technology leaders can manufacture high-performance chips—the kind in that phone in your pocket, the tablet on your desk and nearly every electronic device you own—faster and better. We're passionate about creating solutions that drive progress and help people do what wouldn't be possible without us.  The future is calling. Will you answer?

Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest application development engineers.

The RAPID division is the world leading provider of reticle inspection solutions for the semiconductor industry. The company provides inspection solutions to both the mask shops and the semiconductor fabs to ensure that lithography yields are consistently high thus enabling cost-effective manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Responsible for supporting KLA's reticle inspection products.

Key Responsibilities include -

  • Product Development: Characterization of next generation state-of-the art semiconductor wafer inspection products. This includes designing test plans, collecting data, performing analysis, publishing results and recommendations in the form of applications notes, best known methods.
  • Customer support: Product value demonstration during beta testing, Head-to-Heads (H2H) and tools in the ramp phase, thereby enabling product penetration/adoption at customer facilities. This includes investigating semiconductor manufacturing yield issues and providing inspection solutions; creating & sharing product value statements and use-cases with engineering, marketing and sales groups; training customers and other applications engineers.
  • Use-case Demos: Conduct new tool demonstrations to showcase tool performance and develop use cases to help drive tool sales.

Worldwide travel (on average 10-20%) is required to support inspection products at customer sites.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have MS or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related fields.
  • Ability to perform complex data/image analysis using combination of Excel, Matlab, Python, JMP or other data-analysis tools.
  • A background in Applications Engineering in IC processing/Semiconductor equipment strongly desirable.
  • A background in Systems Engineering, demonstrated by relevant coursework or work experience, is a plus. Systems Engineering implies multi-disciplinary knowledge-base (mechanical, electrical, optics theory, software)
  • Must have excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Candidate will be required to frequently present results to internal as well as external customers.
  • Candidate must be self-driven, and a strong team player.
